
At the centre of the Reliance-Facebook deal is the commercial partnership between Reliance Retail and WhatsApp to push out what it calls new commerce, which will allow consumers to order from neighbourhood kirana stores. The online-to-offline (O2O) commerce initiative could potentially change the landscape of retail, given WhatsApp’s reach of over 400 million customers in India.
