Highlights
  • Amazon Alexa gains a new ‘Drop-In’ feature that allows you instantly connect all of your Echo devices into a group conversation
  • To start a group Drop-In conversation, you will have to trigger Alexa and ask to “Drop-In everywhere”

Amazon Alexa gains a new ‘Drop-In’ feature that allows one to talk with all of their Echo devices at once. Prior to this, Drop-in messages could only be sent to another single Alexa-enabled Echo device at a time and have a two-way conversation. This feature will be particularly helpful if you have more than two Echo devices at your home. To start a group Drop-In conversation, you will have to trigger Alexa and ask to “Drop-In everywhere.”

Amazon has also added a similar ‘Reminder’ feature to play across all Alexa devices. In the Alexa app, customers can choose “All devices” when creating an individual reminder or enable the feature for all reminders. This can be done from Settings > Reminders and opting into “Announce on all devices.” Additionally, you can now easily share photos with your Alexa contacts from your Echo Show and the Alexa app. When a photo is shared with you, one can send back a reaction by choosing one of the three animated emoji options, including laugh, love, and wow.

Separately, Amazon has also revealed some Alexa trends, which reveals some of the most popular queries. Customers asked for more cooking-related questions during a single week in April than Thanksgiving week last year, which typically is the busiest time for these questions. The number of times customers have asked for “what time is it?” recently is down and “Alexa, what day is it?” is up. Lastly, customers asked Alexa more questions about the NFL Draft than ever before.
