The upcoming Apple iPad Air 4 will feature USB-C connectivity, according to a report from Mactokara citing supply chain sources. The iPad Mini 8.5/9-inch refresh is said to retain the Lighting port for another generation. Additionally, the report states the fourth-generation iPad Air could be in the works, and will be based on the 11-inch iPad Pro, meaning it may have smaller bezels with a higher screen-to-body ratio. “As iPad Air (3rd generation) was developed based on iPad Pro (10.5-inch), iPad Air (4th generation) may be developed based on iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation) by downgrading the rear camera features,” the report said.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi in the recent report claimed Apple will release a new 10.8-inch iPad in the second half of 2020, which will be followed by a new 9-inch iPad mini in the first half of 2021. Both these tablets can be expected with affordable price tags, and will be equipped with the latest A-series chipset, much like the new iPhone SE. While it isn’t confirmed, the new iPad Air may be equipped with Face ID, though there are rumours of an iPad Air with in-screen Touch ID.
Kuo also mentioned that Apple is working on an iPad mini with a mini-LED display and it could launch as soon as later this year. However, it isn’t clear if the iPad Mini would be the same reported in the research note. Since all of this speculation at this point and based on reports, we suggest you take this with a pinch of salt until an official announcement is made.
