Xiaomi will be announcing a brand new Mi Band in China today, called the Mi Band 5. The fifth-generation wearable from the brand is said to come with a bunch of new features and improvements, although the design is expected to be similar to last year’s Mi Band 4. The all-new Mi Band 5 is said to feature a 20 percent bigger touchscreen colour display compared to its predecessor. It is also rumoured to come with NFC, SpO2 (blood oxygen saturation) meter, and support for a virtual assistant for voice commands. Seeing the popularity of the Mi Band series in India, we expect the company to launch the fitness band in the country soon. Here’s a look at the expected Mi Band 5 price and features.
Mi Band 5 price, specifications (expected)
The Mi Band 5 price in China is rumoured to be RMB 179, which comes to approximately Rs 1,840 in the Indian currency. The wearable will be available for sale in green, red, yellow, white, orange, brown, and black.
Mi Band 5 is said to feature a 1.2-inch touchscreen OLED colour display, which is 20 percent bigger than Mi Band 4’s 0.95-inch screen. This is also expected to be the first wearable in the lineup to come with NFC support, SpO2 sensor that is used to measure oxygen in the blood, and virtual assistant. While the variant that will launch in China is expected to come with Xiaomi’s XiaoAi, the international variant will most likely be backed by Amazon’s Alexa for all the voice commands.
The Mi Band 5 is tipped to feature a Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI) function that will use heart rate data to inform users of the desired activity level to stay healthy. The fitness tracker will include as many as 11 sports modes – rumoured to be yoga, elliptical machine, rowing machine, skipping rope, and indoor bicycle – and an additional mode for monitoring women-centric data. Additionally, the Mi Band 5 will gain the ability to control the paired phone’s cameras, acting as a remote shutter. While the band’s battery life remain vague at the moment, it’s confirmed to come with a new plug-in charging design. The charger will latch at the back of the wearable using magnets. Traditionally, the Mi Band wearables had USB charging support. Lastly, the Mi Band 5 is teased to come with upgraded sensors for heart and sleep monitoring.
