After much delay, the OnePlus 8 Pro is finally set to go on sale for the first time in India today. The smartphone was supposed to go on open sale alongside the non-Pro OnePlus 8 model lats month, but production issues caused the company to change its plans. The OnePlus 8 has seen a few flash sales, but this will be the first time the Pro model will be up for grabs in the country. Both the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro will be available starting 12PM on OnePlus.in and Amazon. This is still a flash sale, so it would be wise to be ready at 12PM if you want to buy your desired model in your favourite colour option.
We recently reviewed the OnePlus 8 Pro and found it to be one of the best flagship Android phones of 2020. There are a few things you should keep on mind if you’re planning to buy the OnePlus 8 Pro model during today’s sale.
OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a premium price tag
No surprises that the OnePlus 8 Pro is the company’s most premium smartphone yet with prices over Rs 50,000. The OnePlus 8 Pro 8GB RAM variant with 128GB internal storage is priced at Rs 54,999, while the 12GB + 256GB model costs Rs 59,999. The 8GB RAM variant is available in Glacial Green and Onyx Black colours you will have to buy the 12GB RAM option if you want the phone in the new Ultramarine Blue option.
OnePlus 8 Pro is a true flagship smartphone
While the regular OnePlus 8 does come with a Snapdragon 865 processor, there are a bunch of flagship features that you will only find on the Pro model. The OnePlus 8 Pro gets a higher 120Hz refresh and sharper QHD+ resolution. It also comes with IP68 water resistance and fats wireless charging support. The OnePlus 8 Pro gets a better camera setup as well with two 48MP cameras, a telephoto lens and a colour filter lens. The battery is also bigger on the Pro model compared to the non-Pro variant. That being said, you should know that the OnePlus 8 Pro does not support storage expandability and a headphone jack.
OnePlus 8 Pro cameras are really good
In our OnePlus 8 Pro review, we tested the cameras extensively and found them to be a definite improvement over the OnePlus 7T Pro. The main and wide-angle cameras can capture clear and sharp photos in daylight with good colour accuracy and dynamic range. The main camera also does a decent job in low-light although we feel the Nightscape feature could improve further to challenge the likes of the iPhone 11 series. The telephoto lens was also able to capture decent 3x lossless zoom photos. Meanwhile, the 16MP selfie camera captures crisp and colour-accurate selfies in daylight as well.
OnePlus 8 Pro has a solid battery life
Another aspect we were satisfied about was the battery life on the OnePlus 8 Pro. During our review, we were able to get close to 7 hours of screen-on-time on intensive and constant usage that involved streaming a full movie, playing games like PUBG and social media browsing. On average usage, The OnePlus 8 Pro will deliver anywhere between 5-7 hours of SoT and should last a full day. The Warp Charge 30T fast charger juices up the phone from zero to 100 percent in just 63 minutes. You should also note that the OnePlus Warp Charge 30 wireless charger comes separately for Rs 3,990.
OnePlus 8 Pro vs the competition
OnePlus 8 Pro competes against the Xiaomi Mi 10, Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus and iPhone 11 Pro in the premium segment. The latter two flagships are available at much higher prices, giving the OnePlus phone an edge. While the OnePlus phone stands toe-to-toe with them in terms of performance and battery life, we feel the iPhone 11 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus offer better overall camera experience. We are yet to review the Mi 10, but the flagship also looks like a compelling offering with its 108MP camera setup.
There are some affordable flagship phones available as well such as the the Realme X50 Pro 5G (review) and iQOO 3 (review) that are powered by the Snapdragon 865 SoC. However, these phones miss out on many of the flagship features that the OnePlus 8 Pro offers.
