Watch: YouTuber bends (and breaks) OnePlus Nord with just his hands

Highlights
  • OnePlus Nord failed the JerryRigEverything durability test
  • The handset’s frame cracked right near the volume rocker with slight pressure
  • OnePlus Nord scratches at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7

OnePlus Nord is the first mid-range smartphone from the company since The OnePlus X a few years ago. The Nord launched in India last week and went up for pre-orders this week. The smartphone comes with some powerful mid-range specifications such as the Snapdragon 765G SoC, 90Hz AMOLED display and 48MP quad cameras, but has the company made some sacrifices to the overall build of the affordable phone?  Noted YouTuber JerryRigEverything answers this in his typical durability test, where he puts The OnePlus Nord under scratch, burn and bend tests.

At the 5:45 minutes mark (as you can see below) we see the bend test where the OnePlus Nord is shown to break after applying pressure. The handset’s frame cracks right near volume rocker with some pressure. This doesn’t necessarily mean the OnePlus Nord is a fragile device as no one would apply that much force in regular day-to-day usage. However, it does show that the company did make some compromises to the durability of the phone by using a plastic frame instead of a metal construction.

The OnePlus Nord sports a 6.44-inch full HD+ Fluid AMOLED display with 1,080 x 2,400 pixels resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. It is powered by the Snapdragon 765G SoC coupled with up 12GB RAM and up to 256GB internal storage that isn’t further expandable. The phone runs Android 10 OS with OxygenOS custom skin on top. It has an in-display fingerprint sensor for security and 5G connectivity.

OnePlus Nord’s quad-camera setup includes a 48MP Sony IMX586 primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle, a 5MP depth sensor, and a macro sensor for close-up shots. On the front, there is a 32MP primary selfie camera and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with 105-degree field of view. The phone houses a 4,115mAh battery and supports 30W fast charging. Connectivity features include 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS and USB Type-C port for charging.
