Retail inflation at 5-month high of 7.4%, IIP contracts 0.8%

Retail inflation surged to a five-month high in September on the back of stubborn food prices, triggering fears of more interest rate hikes by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to tame price pressure, while industrial output contracted in August, posing a fresh challenge for policymakers battling to keep growth intact against the backdrop of a slowing global economy.
